   ABOUT RENEGAD

THE NEW SENSATION

Lyrically conscious, naturally talented, fashionable and a great performer on stage are few phrases to describe reggae's next superstar-sing-jay RENEGAD. Born Junior Ricardo McCalla on   December 19, 1983 to parents Ruth Green and Clive McCalla, rene[short for renegad]as he affectionately called, is on the verge of taking the local and international music scene by storm. Renegad who is now 27 years old commenced his musical quest at the tender age of 12.He was in primary school then about to do GSAT [then common entrance] at Naggo Head Primary School. After Naggo Head he moved on to Greater Portmore High School where Renegad became a household name amongst his peers. He began attending regular stage-shows and concerts. So naturally talented was he, that he was drafted to play both basketball and football for his high school at the age of 15 years old. With the best of music yet to come, Rene graduated high school with one focus which is to take his music seriously and tries to be as lyrically clean and conscious as best he could. However 'Rene' could not see a real opportunity to break out, as he had no financial or real moral support. The most satanic and gruesome thing happened on Saturday April 30th, 2005 when Renegad's youngest sister Shaneka Anderson was abducted from her mother in downtown Kingston. On the following day, May 1st, the start of child's month she was found dead in an open lot in Rae Town. This became the decisive point for this talented artiste, he then decided to seek exposure and assistance in promoting his music. A well known producer by the name of Claude 'bigstone' Sinclair of bigstone productions, who has worked with various artistes such as Sizzla, Capleton, Turbulence, Junior Reid, Ken Boothe and many other recognized artistes, quickly identified the exceptional talent of the young sing-jay, and immediately gave him the name RENEGAD. Mr. Sinclair recorded his newest single entitled “Girl Don't Leave Me Lonely”. Mr. Sinclair organized an event on May 06, 2006 called the ''Shaneka Anderson foundation benefit concert'' an event conceptualized by Blazin Entertainment through its Chairman and C.E.O Omar Ebanks.  This event showcased to Jamaica the once unknown talent of RENEGAD, as he delivered a stellar performance in his 30 minute set.  Approximately 5 months after, RENEGAD joined the band of artistes at Loyal Soldier Production, one of the few producers of reggae superstar I Wayne, while there he learnt many important lessons. He learnt to strengthen his already strong vocals and other professional musical skills.  As luck would have it, Renegad's musical progress elevated when one of his cousins Michael “Poochie” Moodie committed himself to launching Renegad's career.  Mr. Moodie quickly gained the support of Jason “Cootie” Thomas. Together with Renegad they formed the production house; TREADDA PRODUCTION.  With an arsenal of songs enough to compile an album, Renegad released his first single, entitled “No Border Line” for Treadda Productions in April of 2007.  With the support of Andrew “Nuffy” Nelson, “No Border Line” was sent to the studios of Irie FM where it has been enjoying heavy rotation since.  The song is so powerful, that other radio stations, including Fame FM, Hitz 92 FM and Rootz FM quickly got copies of the single to their many disc jockeys. Renegad started making many appearances on some of the island's established stage shows such as; Old Harbour Star Jam, Linstead Fire, Western Consciousness, West Kingston Jamboree and Guinness Sting.he has been interviewed on Irie FM, Rootz FM, Links TV, Spice TV and J.A.C.S channel 50 in Portmore.  He has gotten major publicity in the media, including The Gleaner and The Star.  Renegad's second track for Treadda Productions was released in June 2007 entitled “Lack of Education”. This song, with hard hitting and mind stirring lyrics is a clear number 1.   In the future Renegad will be seeking to establish himself among the best and hottest superstars of reggae music.
